Iran's West Azerbaijan Province has the capacity to improve economic ties with the Republic of Azerbaijan, said Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman.
"In terms of economic and cultural relations with neighbor countries, there is a special view toward Azerbaijan and border provinces play an important role," said Abbas Mousavi during a meeting with officials and managing directors of West Azerbaijan Province, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"Iran and Azerbaijan have many good things in common and the two countries should expand and improve cooperation," Mousavi said.
"West Azerbaijan province has rich economic and cultural capacities and thus, can have a key role in boosting Iranian-Azerbaijani relations," the spokesman noted.
"Addressing trade issues with Azerbaijan is on the agenda as this is important in terms of economic outlooks," he added.
West Azerbaijan Province is located in the northwest of Iran and shares border with Turkey, Iraq and Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
