The current week in Azerbaijan began with the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of agriculture as part of a joint agricultural forum held in US’ Oklahoma City by the Azerbaijan State Agrarian University and The University of Oklahoma, Trend reports.
Executive Director of the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC) Natig Bakhishov, commenting on this cooperation, noted that with this document the parties express their intention to discuss the further development of joint academic programs and events in the field of agriculture and student exchange.
Also, this week the Ministry of Agriculture announced the registration of greenhouses, refrigerated warehouses and grain elevators in the Electronic Agriculture Information System (EAIS) in Azerbaijan.
In addition, the prospects for the development of a tobacco enterprise in the Sinjan village of Azerbaijan’s Oghuz district and the possibility of providing additional support to the enterprise were discussed.
The Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation (AIC) has announced the amount of investments of Japanese investors in the Azerbaijani Oguz Agro Industry company. Japan has invested about $2 million in Oguz Agro Industry for the production of tobacco in Azerbaijan. Some 70 percent of the company's share belongs to representatives of Japan, and 30 percent to representatives of Azerbaijan.
On August 7, Azerbaijan’s Agriculture Ministry and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) launched a new project in the field of agriculture. The project will increase the productivity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) engaged in food and agricultural production in Zagatala, Gakh and Balakan districts and facilitate their entry into the market.
Manager of the project Yusif Akhundov noted that value-added chains and market access will be created for the six selected products, stressing that contacts will be made with a number of state and private organizations to search for a market.
Also on August 7, Rafail Guliyev was appointed head of the apparatus of Azerbaijan's Agriculture Ministry.
