Iran discloses volume of wheat purchased in Ardabil Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 9

More than 156,000 tons of wheat were purchased from farmers in the Ardabil Province (northwestern Iran), said Ali Nobakht director general of Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran’s branch in Ardabil Province, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Nobakht emphasized that the value of purchased wheat to date is more than 3.92 trillion rials (about $93.3 million).

The director general added that most of the cost of purchased wheat has been paid to farmers, and the rest will be paid in a short time.

"Purchase of wheat in Iran's Ardabil Province began on July 2 in Parsabad, Aslan Duz and Bileh Savar counties. The procurement in Germi county is nearing completion. However, procurement continues in Ardabil, Meshkin Shahr, Khalkhal and Kosar counties," he said.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
