Volume of wheat purchased in Iran's Markazi Province increases

The volume of wheat purchased from farmers in the Iran’s Markazi Province has increased by 53,000 tons since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to date on August 9, compared to the same period last Iranian year, said Gholamreza Maleki, director for Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran’s branch in Markazi Province, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

Maleki emphasized that so far, more than 293,000 tons of wheat worth 7.34 trillion rials (about $174 million) have been purchased in the Markazi Province.

Maleki added that 5.99 trillion rials (about $142 million) have been paid to the farmers, so far.

The director noted that in addition, 1,160 tons of rapeseed were purchased in the current Iranian year.

According to him, there are 32 centers operating for the purchase of wheat and 6 centers for the purchase of rapeseed in the Markazi Province of Iran.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
