Iran declares amount of investment in Bushehr port

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 9

The private sector will invest 9 trillion rials (about $214 million) within a plan to develop the Negin port facility in the Bushehr port of Bushehr Province (southern Iran), said Siavash Arjomandzadeh, director general of Ports and Maritime Organization’s (PMO) branch in Bushehr Province, Trend reports citing PMO.

According to him, so far, 4.5 trillion rials (about $107 million) has been invested.

The director general emphasized that the Negin port facility has been designed on 450 hectares of land, and the construction of platforms, terminals and port infrastructure is currently underway on 190 hectares.

Arjomandzadeh said that with the improvement of the Negin port facility, the volume of loading and unloading of cargo in the Bushehr port will increase by 11 percent.

"At present, 5 percent of the cargo loaded and unloaded in Iranian ports is carried out in the Bushehr port, and this figure will increase to 16 percent with the improvement of the Negin port facility," he said.

The director general noted that with the commissioning of the Negin port facility, it will be possible for ships with capacity of 50,000 tons to dock at the port.

More than 351,000 tons of products were loaded and unloaded in the Bushehr port during the first 4 months of the current Iranian year (March 20-July 21, 2020).

In addition, more than 218,000 tons of products were exported and more than 104,000 tons were imported through the Bushehr port.
