Iran announces number of licenses issued for carpet weaving

As many as 317 handmade carpet workshops were licensed since the current government came to power in Iran in August 2013, Director of the National Carpet Center of Iran Farahnaz Rafe said, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade of Iran.

Rafe stressed that in addition, 514 workshops were licensed to be commissioned during this period.

The official added that in the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2018 to March 21, 2019), 581 billion rials (about $13.8 million) in loans have been provided to support carpet weaving workshops and increase employment.

“Furthermore, various trainings on carpet weaving were held on a regular basis,” he said.

Iran exported $50 million worth of handmade carpets in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020). This figure stood at $500 million in the preceding Iranian year.
