Volume of wheat purchased in Iran announced

The volume of purchased wheat from beginning of current harvesting season from April 4 to August 10 exceeded 7.7 million tons, Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade and the CEO of Government Trading Corporation of Iran Yazdan Seif said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

The deputy minister noted that the volume wheat purchased from farmers in Iran increased by 7 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Seif added that so far, more than 93 percent of the value of purchased wheat has been paid.

“More than 178.4 trillion rials [about $4.24 billion] has been paid to farmers so far,” he said.

The CEO stressed that the total value of wheat purchased is 192 trillion rials (about $4.57 billion).

Seif said that in addition, 263,000 tons of rapeseed worth 118 trillion rials (about 2.81 billion) has been purchased from the farmers.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
