Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province exports honey to five countries

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 19

East Azerbaijan Province (northwestern Iran) exported honey to Iraq, Malaysia, Lebanon, the UAE and Canada during the first four months the current Iranian year (March 20-July 21, 2020), said Javid Behrouzin, deputy director of Agriculture Department of East Azerbaijan Province, Trend reports citing the department’s official website.

Behrouzin emphasized that 43 tons of honey was exported to these countries during four months.

The deputy director added that 48 tons of honey was exported during the same period last Iranian year. In total, 116 tons of honey was exported from the province in the last Iranian year.

According to the official, the East Azerbaijan Province produces 15,000 tons of honey a year.

Behrouzin noted that 14,000 beekeepers work in the field of beekeeping.

“There are more than 1.4 million beehives in the East Azerbaijan Province. In terms of numbers, the province ranks first in Iran,” he said.
