Vegetable production up in Azerbaijan

Livestock production in Azerbaijan increased by 3.2 percent from January through July 2020, having surpassed 2.4 billion manat ($1.4 billion) compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing the State Statistical Committee.

During the reporting period, 298,400 tons of meat, 1.2 million tons of milk, 1.1 million eggs, 15,000 tons of wool, and 446.6 tons of silkworm cocoon were produced in the country. At the same time, meat production rose by 3.1 percent, milk – by 1.9 percent, egg – by 7 percent, and production of wool slightly grew by 0.5 percent.

During the first seven months of this year, 611,700 tons of potatoes and over 1 million tons of other vegetables were grown in Azerbaijan. On an annualized basis, the volume of potato growing rose by 6.1 percent, and of vegetable growing – by 6.3 percent.

In 2019, the value of agricultural products in the country amounted to 7.8 billion manat ($4.5 billion), including of plant origin - 3.7 billion manat ($2.1 billion), and of animal origin – 4 billion manat ($2.3 billion).
