Turkmenistan, Romania to join forces to overcome economic consequences of COVID-19

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan and Romania discussed the possibility of implementing joint actions to overcome the economic consequences of the coronavirus, Trend reports referring to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The discussions were held during a meeting of Minister of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan Muhammetgeldi Serdarov with Minister of Economy, Energy and the Business Environment of Romania Virgil Popescu on August 19, 2020.

Priority areas of cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, agriculture, light industry, education and high technologies were also considered.

In this regard, the parties noted the importance of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Romanian Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation and its activities.

Currently, Turkmenistan has registered no coronavirus cases.

Previously, Turkmen-Romanian consultations were held in February 2020, during which the parties noted the high level of cooperation between countries in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields.

Ashgabat and Bucharest have intensified diplomatic efforts in recent years to create the Caspian-Black Sea transit corridor.

It is expected that Romania's Constanța can become a transshipment point for goods transported from the Turkmen port of Turkmenbashi, as well as from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, to the EU.

The supply route runs through the Caspian Sea to Baku (Azerbaijan), then by rail to Batumi or Poti (Georgia, Black Sea region) and from there to Romania.
