Business angel development program to attract more investments in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s startups have attracted 37.9 billion tenge ($90.6 million) from 2018 to date, including 11.7 billion tenge ($27.9 million) received by startups of Astana Hub International Technology Park of IT Startups, Astana Hub representative told Trend.

The official said that one of the main goal of the Astana Hub is the development of the innovative startup ecosystem, including startups support and attraction of talented IT specialists from all over the world.

With this in mind, the Technology Park currently has various startup development programs including a startup school, incubation and acceleration programs.

“In order to provide educational services, the acceleration program 'Accelerator Astana Hub 7.0' was launched. To date, initiators of 31 startup projects have been trained. Since May 2020, 30 trackers are undergoing training at the School of Trackers,” the official said.

Astana Hub official added that the ‘Program for the opening and operation of research and development (R&D) centers and laboratories’ was also approved and adopted for implementation within the framework of the Digital Kazakhstan State Program.

“At the moment, 25 R&D centers and laboratories of local and foreign companies operate at the Astana Hub site, including 17 which opened in 2019. A program for the development of regional incubators, technology parks, accelerators was also developed. Following the acceptance of applications within the program, three regional technoparks were selected for further development,” the official said.

The representative noted that within the framework of assistance in attracting investments and in order to develop smart investments, Astana Hub has developed a business angel development program, which includes training for potential investors and a business event with participation of startups’ representatives.

“To date, about 80 potential business angels have been trained within the program,” the official said.
