The challenges presented by COVID-19 have created opportunities for new partnerships between the US and Turkmenistan, Stephen Guice, Public Affairs Officer of the US Embassy in Ashgabat told Trend.

The US remains actively engaged in Turkmenistan despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, added Guice.

“Although many interactions with our partners and with the people of Turkmenistan now occur virtually, we continue to implement programs in support of a secure, independent, and prosperous Turkmenistan,” noted Guice.

Guice pointed out that growth in Central Asia, including Turkmenistan, might slow in the short term due to COVID-19 then recover as the pandemic wanes.

“Turkmenistan's rich natural resource reserves and central geographic location give its economy tremendous potential,” he added.

As reported, the Government of Turkmenistan has undertaken active measures to prevent and protect citizens from the threat of COVID-19 through timely and appropriate actions to reduce the risks of spreading infectious diseases caused by COVID-19 to the territory of the country.
