Purchasing of wheat continues in Iran’s Markazi Province

More than 340,700 tons of wheat has been purchased in Iran's Markazi Province from May 30 to September 5, 2020, said Gholamreza Maleki, Director General of Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran’s branch in Markazi Province, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

According to the Maleki, the purchasing of wheat in the province will continue until September 21.

The director general added that the volume of purchased wheat has increased by 20 percent during the reporting period compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Maleki noted that more than 80 percent of the value of purchase of wheat has been paid so far, and the rest will be paid soon.

"More than 1,200 tons of rapeseed was purchased from farmers in the province and all of the money for purchased rapeseed was paid to farmers," he said.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020). The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

Several products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by a state company under a guarantee in Iran.
