Azerbaijan expands export of fruit, vegetables

The value of export of fruit and vegetables from Azerbaijan amounted to $359.6 million in the first seven months of 2020, Azerbaijan’s Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association told Trend.

From January through July 2020, the export volume of locally produced cherries and sweet cherries increased. Meanwhile, the export of cherries and sweet cherries from Azerbaijan totaled $16.4 million, which is 30 percent more compared to the same period of 2019.

Exports of peaches from local farms also slightly increased in July 2020 and amounted to $4.5 million in monetary terms, Guliyev said.

The association’s chairman said that the value of export of tomatoes grew by $1.1 million in the first seven months of this year, compared to the same period of last year.

Guliyev noted that the main importers of Azerbaijani fruits and vegetables are Russia and Belarus.

The Azerbaijani Fruit and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association was established on September 16, 2016, to coordinate the activity of entrepreneurs engaged in the production and export of fruits and vegetables in the country, expand cooperation among them, increase the total production volume of fruits and vegetables and expand the country's export opportunities.

Currently, there are 60 members of the association.

To join the association, an official application should be submitted in the appropriate form and fill out the registration form. Annual membership fees are paid after the approval of the application by the board of the association.
