The volume of tea leaves purchased from farmers in Iran from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to September 8 amounted to 114,000 tons, Chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports citing the organization.

Jahansaz stressed that this is an increase of about 10 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

Jahansaz noted that the value of tea purchased from farmers was 4.53 trillion rials (about $107 million).

According to him, so far, 3.56 trillion rials (about $84.9 million) has been paid to farmers.

"Iran has produced 25,700 tons of dry tea in the current Iranian year," he said.

It is forecasted that 130,000-135,000 tons of tea leaves will be purchased from farmers in the current Iranian year.

The price of first-grade tea leaves is 46,000 rials (about $1.09), and the cost of second-grade tea leaves is 33,000 rials (about 78 cents) this year.
