Exports of hazelnuts, apples and peaches from Georgia up

The exports of hazelnuts, apples, and peaches from Georgia have increased significantly in 2020, Trend reports via Government administration.

As of September 10, some 2,648 tons of hazelnuts were exported from Georgia, which is 66 percent more than in the same period last year. Over 30 enterprises are involved in the placement of hazelnuts. The projected volume of high-quality hazelnut harvest in 2020 is 50,000 tons.

As for the export of apples, as of September 10, some 505 tons of apples were exported from Georgia, which is 300 percent more than in the same period in 2019. Income from the export of these products is 250 percent higher than in the previous year and amounts to $218,000.

With the support of the Georgian government, intensive and semi-intensive apple orchards were planted throughout the country on a total area of ​​1,128 hectares.

As of September 10, some 24,788 tons of peaches and nectarines were exported from Georgia, which is 87 percent more than in the same period last year. Export income for these products is 68 percent higher than in the same period in 2019 and amounts to $20.8 million. To facilitate the export of peaches, the preparation of the necessary documents is carried out according to the principle of "single window".

This process involves a group consisting of representatives of the phytosanitary, information, and advisory (under the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture) and customs services.
