Iran discloses volume of areas equipped with modern irrigation system

A total of 44,000 hectares of land in Iran has been equipped with modern irrigation system from the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to September 14, Executor of the modern irrigation systems project of Ministry Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Abbas Zare said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Zare noted that work is underway to equip 130,000 more hectares of land with modern irrigation systems.

The official added that the irrigation efficiency will increase by 44 percent, agricultural production will increase by 30 percent, and water consumption will decrease by 30 percent by the equipping of these areas with modern irrigation systems.

“The loans worth about 16 trillion rials (about $380 million) are planned to issue in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 to March 21, 2021) in connection with the supply of modern irrigation systems,” he said.

Zare emphasized that of 8.7 million hectares of agricultural land in Iran about 2.4 million hectares have been equipped with modern irrigation systems, so far.

Iran plans to harvest 128 million tons of agricultural goods during the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 to March 21, 2021). This figure was 123 million tons in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

Iran's Ministry of Agriculture Jihad prefers micro-irrigation and drip irrigation method in the modern irrigation system.
