BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.21

By Fidan Babayeva – Trend:

Azerbaijan exported the fresh persimmons worth $14.1 million from January through August 2020, Chairman of the Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association Gadir Yusifov told Trend.

According to Yusifov, the volume of persimmons exported during the reporting period amounted to 17,940 tons.

Meanwhile, the export volume of fresh persimmons dropped by 24.6 percent, compared to the same period of last year, he said.

“The export price for each kilogram of fresh persimmons averaged $1.5 in the first six months of this year, while the average export price for dried and frozen persimmons equaled $10. The price per kilogram of fresh persimmon in the domestic market of Azerbaijan was 2.5-3 manats ($1.4-1.7),” he stressed.

The chairman noted that the fresh persimmons were exported over the reporting period mainly to Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and the UAE.

“We’re going to start exporting the persimmons to Slovakia, Czech Republic, and some European countries by the end of 2020,” Yusifov said.

The Persimmon Producers and Exporters Association of Azerbaijan was created in August 2017 on the initiative of entrepreneurs and with the support of the Ministry of Economy.

The main objectives of the association are to increase the production of competitive and export-oriented products, as well as increase persimmon exports. Income from exports in 2019 significantly exceeded revenues for 2018, amounting to $114 million.
