Georgia increases export of apples

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 26

Some 1,054 tons of apples were exported from Georgia as of September 25, 2020, which is 832 tons more than in the same period last year, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

Georgia has exported apples to Russia (990.5 tons), Kazakhstan (59.9 tons), other countries (0.10 tons). The proceeds from the export of apples are $321,000 more than in the same period last year.

With the support of the Georgian government, apple orchards were planted nationwide on a total area of ​​1,128 hectares.

According to the ministry, within the framework of the "Plant the Future" program, the volume of state co-financing amounted to more than 9 million lari ($2.9 million).

Compared to last year, the forecasted apple harvest increased by 3 times and exceeds 120,000 tons.
