Iran plans to increase fish farming

TEHRAN, Iran, Sep.30

Trend:

Iran's fish farming production was 526,000 tons during the last Iranian year(started March 21, 2021), said a deputy in Iran Fisheries Organization.

"The agenda is to increase production in current Iranian year(started March 20, 2020) due to the effects of coronavirus on consumer market and export transportation," said Hossein Abdollahi, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The production of tilapia has reached 500 tons in the last Iranian year(started March 21, 2019) that were produced in fish farms in South Khorasan, Qom, Semnan, and Yazd provinces," he said.

"Iran has imported 300 million eyed eggs for producing trout in fish farms. The country annually requires about 400 million to 500 million eyed eggs for this purpose and it domestically produces 40 percent of it," he noted.

"Coronavirus pandemic has created difficult situations for consumption market and export in current Iranian year(started March 20, 2020)," he added.

"Iran ranks first in producing trout fish in the world, fifth in producing carp, second in producing caviar and third in producing sturgeon in its fish farms," he stated.
