Volume of wheat purchased in Iran's Markazi Province increases

The volume of wheat purchased from farmers in the Iran’s Markazi Province increased by 13 percent from the beginning of current wheat harvesting season in Iran (April 4) compared to the same period last Iranian year, said Gholamreza Maleki, Director General of Government Trading Corporation (GTC) of Iran’s branch in Markazi Province, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.

According to Maleki, thus, 344,000 tons of wheat were purchased from farmers during the reporting period.

The director general added that the value of wheat purchased from farmers in the province was 8.61 trillion rials (about $205 million) and the money for purchased wheat was paid to the farmers in full.

He noted Markazi Province ranks 8th among 31 provinces of Iran in terms of wheat purchasing from farmers.

“In addition, 1,200 tons of rapeseed worth 55 billion rials (about $1.3 million) were purchased from farmers in Markazi Province,” he said.

The price of ordinary wheat to be purchased from farmers in the current planting year is set at 25,000 rials (about 59 cents), and of durum wheat - at 26,000 rials (about 61 cents) per kilogram in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020).

The price of rapeseed is set at 46,600 rials (about $1.1) per kilogram.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
