Sale prices of food products in Azerbaijan up

The cost of products sold in retail chains in Azerbaijan amounted to 28 billion manat ($16.4 billion) from January through September 2020, which is 1.6 percent less compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing reports from the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan.

According to report, the turnover of food, drinks and tobacco products amounted to 15.1 billion manat ($8.88 billion), non-food products - 12.9 billion manat ($7.58 billion). The cost of sold food products increased by 3.4 percent compared to the same period of 2019, while non-food products decreased by 3 percent.

“In the first nine months of this year, 48.8 percent of the funds spent by buyers (final consumption goods) fell on food, 15.7 percent - on textiles, clothing and footwear; 5.7 percent - furniture and electrical appliances, the purchase of automotive fuel accounted for 5.3 percent of the total spent funds, pharmaceutical and medical products - 1.8 percent, computers, telecommunications equipment and printing products - 0.8 percent. Also, 16.8 percent of the share of the total amount accounted for other non-food products,” said the report.

“Trade enterprises sold about 23 percent of consumer goods from January through September 2020. Individual entrepreneurs accounted for 51.9 percent, markets and fairs - 25.1 percent of the specific share,” the report said.

The share of retail turnover increased by 8 percent for enterprises over the year, 2.9 percent for individual entrepreneurs, and decreased by 16 percentage points for markets and fairs.

The average monthly retail trade turnover per capita in the reporting period of 2020 amounted to 312.6 manat ($183.3), increasing by 2.9 manat ($1.7) year on year.

In 2019, the average monthly volume of sold food products per capita amounted to 168.5 manat ($99.1), non-food products - 144.1 manat ($84.7).
