Kazakhstan, Turkey agree to further co-op in space exploration

Kazakhstan’s Kazcosmos and Turkish Space Agency signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at bilateral cooperation in the space area, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry.

The memorandum was signed following a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Minister of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry Mussin Bagdat with the Turkish Space Agency Serdar Huseyn Yildirim.

During the meeting, the parties talked development of the space industry in both countries and bilateral cooperation in this area.

The signed memorandum is exported to allow parties to start practical cooperation between space departments and enterprises of both countries.

In 2019, Kazakhstan has prepared a project of Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the area of space exploration activities with Turkey.

Kazakhstan proposed that Turkish spaceships use launching capacities, as well as that Turkey looks into the possibility of implementing joint projects at Baikonur Cosmodrome. The proposal is being reviewed by the Turkish side.

Turkish Space Agency was established in 2018. In accordance with the decree of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan the agency has its own budget, operates independently, and is responsible for the development and implementation of the National Space Program of Turkey.
