Georgia sees increase in sheep export to Saudi Arabia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 16

The export of sheep from Georgia to Saudi Arabia has increased by $4.5 million within January to September 2020, compared to the same period of the previous year, Trend reports via the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

"Indicators for Georgia’s production export has increased, including live sheep. Farmers are satisfied. It is worth mentioning that as a comparison to the previous year, worth of exported live sheep has increased in 36 percent, which is a result of increasing export price,” the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Giorgi Khanishvili stated.

LTD “Agrokiziki” specializes in shipment of live sheep for export. Beka Gonashvili, representative of the LTD “Agrokiziki” stated that, recently, number of shipment orders has increased.

The Arab world is the main beneficiary of live sheep export from Georgia.

As of 2020, the key countries to export are Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia. In the course of the first 9 months of 2020, worth of live sheep export to the Saudi Arabia has increased 6 times, amounting into $4.5 million.
