Investments in Kazakhstan's agriculture surge

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct. 21

By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:

The volume of investments in Kazakhstan’s agriculture, forestry, and fishery sector amounted to 292 billion tenge ($682.1 million) over the first eight months of 2020, which is 9.1 percent more than during the same period last year, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s Committee of Statistics.

The main grain sowing regions, i.e. North Kazakhstan, Akmola, and Kostanay regions, allocated 139.8 billion tenge ($326.5 million) into the sector, which accounts for 48 percent of the value of the total investments into the sector.

Furthermore, over 88 percent of the investments allocated during the reporting period accounted for the cultivation of one- or two-year crops (63.3 percent of total volume, 56.7 percent more year-on-year) and animal husbandry (24.9 percent, 75.1 percent more year-on-year).

Kazakhstan’s gross agricultural output volume increased by 4.9 percent and amounted to 2.4 trillion tenge ($5.6 million) from Jan. through Aug. 2020.

The increase was mainly due to an increase in crop production by 10.7 percent. The greatest output increase was observed in the Akmola region (by 19.2 percent), North Kazakhstan (10.9 percent), and Kostanay (5.8 percent). The harvesting pace this year is also higher compared to that of last year.
