Export of agricultural products from Iran's Kurdistan region increases

TEHRAN, Iran, Oct. 25

The director of business development of the Kurdistan Agricultural Jihad Organization announced that the amount of exports of agricultural products from Kurdistan Province in the first half of the current Iranian year (started on March 20) increased by 48 percent compared to the same period of last year.

"The amount of exports of agricultural products from Kurdistan during this period is over 548,000 tons, the value of which is estimated at $732 million,” Shahriyar Hanifi said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

“The export of the province's agricultural products in the first 6 months of the current year (started on March 20) is more than 53 percent of the total export of Kurdistan,” he said.

"Exports of agricultural products increased during the outbreak of the coronavirus, while the export of oil, oil derivatives, mining and metal ores has declined," Hanifi said.

He went on to say that the value of exports of agricultural products in the first 6 months of last Iranian year (started on March 21, 2019, ended on KMarch 20, 2020) was $137 million, which has increased by 47 percent to $202 million in same period this year.

Kurdistan, with more than 1.2 million hectares of high-quality arable land, is one of the centers of agricultural production in the country. The total production of agricultural products in Kurdistan is 3 million tons, which the Ministry of Agriculture intends to increase to about 5 million tons per year.
