Polypropylene powder plant construction underway in Kazakhstan’s Shymkent

The construction of a plant for production of methyl tert-butyl ether and polypropylene powder is underway in Kazakhstan’s Shymkent city, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Defense.

The progress on the industrial projects implementation in Turkestan region was revealed during a working trip of Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Nurlan Nogayev to the region.

The project is being implemented by Shymkent Chemical Company JSC on the territory of Ontustik Special Economic Zone.

Methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) is an oxygenating additive to increase the octane number of fuel, polypropylene powder is a polymer product that is a raw material for the production of bags, containers, pipes, etc. The future plant’s project capacity is designed to be 57,000 tons of MTBE and 80,000 tons of powdered polypropylene a year.

Currently the construction and installation work is underway at the construction site.

Another project which is being implemented in Kazakhstan’s Turkestan region is the coal chemical plant construction. The plant is being constructed by Standard Resources company. The future plant’s capaicty is expected to be 100,000 tons of product a year. The plant-produced goods will be used in manufacturing of fuel and petrochemical products.
