BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 12

By Nargiz Sadikhova - Trend:

COVID-19 crisis can prove to be a good opportunity to enhance cooperation between Kazakhstan and Romania, Spokesperson and Mass-media Relations Directorate of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Trend.

“Needless to say, the global pandemic of COVID-19 has affected us all and has posed individual and collective challenges, but, at the same time, we have been witnessing joint efforts to keep close ties throughout the crisis, including humanitarian assistance and relief to those most affected. Multilateral cooperation and global solidarity among states are the only way forward to deal with such challenges,” the ministry official said.

In this respect, the official noted, the EU conveyed a strong message of support to Central Asia in order to respond to the coronavirus pandemic on short and longer-term, for immediate health-related needs and socio-economic recovery, by mobilizing 123 million euros.

“Bilaterally, we expressed our appreciation to the Kazakh authorities for their responsiveness in assisting the transit of special Romanian planes, delivering humanitarian aid. In its turn, at the request of the Kazakh side, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs assisted the humanitarian repatriation of Kazakh сitizens during the peak of the crisis,” the ministry said.

Yet, the official added, this unprecedented crisis is not only a tremendous challenge, but can also prove to be a good opportunity to enhance bilateral cooperation, on more solid and constructive grounds based on innovative solutions, bearing in mind the lessons learned during the pandemic.

In official’s words, the pandemic has revealed how important connectivity is, as efforts were undertaken to ensure the continuity of deliveries and the need to find alternative solutions when needed.

“However, connectivity is not only about goods and services; connectivity is also about people, to better understand each other, our contemporary societies, to build bridges in areas affected sometimes by distance, by geography,” the official said.

In this regard, the official said, Kazakhstan plays a special role in Central Asia as a significant community of Romanian origin is living here and the lectureship of Romania language, culture and civilization at State University of Karaganda is a unique project in the region.

“We are looking forward, as soon as conditions allow, to the next plenary session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for economic, trade, technical and scientific cooperation, to renew the visits in capital format at ministerial level, in particular line ministries and at the level of education institutions, to work more, to work better on mobility overall. Until then, we do not lose sight of the alternative options offered by digital technologies,” the official said.
