The Head of Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran Mohammad Rastad has announced that over 70 million tons of goods have been loaded and unloaded in the country's ports so far in the current Iranian year (started on March 20), Trend reports via IRNA.

Rastad made the remark on the sidelines of the International Conference of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in Anzali Port.

He noted that the existing capabilities and capacities of Iran have allowed the country to continue supplying the people`s essential needs.

Referring to the US sanctions since 2018, he said that part of these sanctions was on the shipping and maritime transport industry of the Islamic Republic of Iran and contrary to the conventions of the International Maritime Organization.

“In this regard Iran has noted its protest to the international community,” he said.

He stated that the capacity of the Maritime fleet of the Islamic Republic of Iran has one of the largest capacities in the world. Rastad went on to say that the total annual capacity of the country's commercial ports is 246 million tons.

"In total, we have provided good conditions in terms of quality and efficiency of the infrastructure and port equipment,” he said.
