The Iranian energy minister said the Qatari government has a strong will to develop economic relations with Iran.

Making the remarks on the sidelines of the 7th meeting of the Iran-Qatar Joint Economic Commission in Isfahan, Minister Reza Ardakanian said during Amir Qatar's visit to Iran last year, the leaders of the two countries made the Iranian Ministry of Energy in charge of holding the joint commission for economic relations between the two countries and the development of political relations, Trend reports citing IRNA.

He stated that during this period, the necessary plans were made for holding a meeting of the Joint Commission on trade cooperation between the two countries with the cooperation of both sides' private sector in Isfahan,” he said. “Due to the outbreak of coronavirus, this meeting held in limited form.

He went on to say that during his visit to Doha he delivered the Iranian President's message to the Emir of Qatar.

“It was decided not to postpone the meeting, but to hold it in a limited way,” he said. “The businessmen conference will be held in the near future.”

Ardakanian noted that after the United States, Britain, and France, Iran is the fourth country to which Qatar has sent a commercial attache and this proves the Qatari side's will in expanding economic relations with Iran.

He expressed content that during the held event, energy fields have been explored and the intended cooperation sectors are to be worked on.

Underlining that Iran is in an economic war with its enemies, Ardakanian said it is hoped that cooperation with the country's neighbors and true friends will bear fruit in the near future.

He noted that 57 percent of the export of technical and engineering services in recent years was related to water and electricity.

"We have had discussions with Qatar to cooperate in the electricity sector. Negotiations between the officials of the two countries in the field of electricity started yesterday.” said the Minister.

He anticipated that both sides will reach clear results on electricity cooperation by the end of the current year (end on March 20).

Ardakanian expressed hope that cooperation in the field of transport communications with the Qatari government would also be developed.

Ardakanian and Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari inked the 7th meeting of the Iran-Qatar Joint Economic Commission's MoU on Tuesday.
