Iran's railway network to connect to Turkey through Urmia

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov. 27

The Deputy Governor of Iran`s West Azerbaijan Province announced that measures are being taken to connect Iran`s railway network to Turkey.

"Border prosperity plays an important role in the sustainable development of the region and road and rail capacities can be used for more prosperity in the province, especially at the Sarv border,” Aydin Rahmani said on Thursday, Trend reports citing IRNA.

He stated that some steps have been taken to connect the Iranian railway network to the Turkish railway network through Urmia.

“Exploiting the economic advantages, regional development, and increased international communications and accessing to seas of Turkey through the port of Mersin are among the goals considered in the railway connection project,” the Deputy Governor of West Azerbaijan province said.

Urmia is 55 km away from the Sarv border, which is one of the official common borders of Iran with Turkey.
