Iran's export to Afghanistan increases

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec 2

Trend:

Iran's annual export to Afghanistan is between $2.5 and $3 billion, said head of export and import commission in South Khorasan Chamber of Commerce Alireza Khamehzar, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"Iran's export to Afghanistan was more than its share of export to 15 countries of the European Union," he said.

"Fortunately, Afghanistan was excluded from US sanctions against Iran and Iran can export goods faster via its borders in Dogharoon, Milak and Mahirud," said Khamehzar.

"Afghanistan imports 80 percent of its needs from Iran. One of the priorities of trade is having a joint border and we should use the 1,000-kilometer joint border with Afghanistan," he said.

Khamehzar pointed out that Afghanistan and Pakistan are traditional rivals, while new markets like China, India, the UAE, Turkey are also investing in this country.

"This could reduce the share of Iran in its Afghanistan-related activity," he said.

"One of the issues in this regard is that sometimes Afghanistan puts limitations on some Iranian goods, which brands are forged in the country. This creates problems for expanding Iran's export," he said.
