BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 3

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

About 120 billion rials (about $2.86 million) were paid to tea farmers in Iran in recent days in connection with the purchase of tea leaves during April 20 through October 21, 2020, Chairman of Iran Tea Organization Habib Jahansaz said, Trend reports citing the organization’s website.

Jahansaz noted that a total of 4.89 trillion rials (about $116 million) was paid to farmers for purchased tea in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, to March 21, 2020).

He added that it means that 95.3 percent of the money for purchased tea was paid. The remaining money will be paid by tea factories to farmers as soon as possible.

The chairman stressed that the purchase of 1st-grade tea leaves increased by 27.7 percent, and 2nd-grade tea leaves by 50 percent compared to the last Iranian year.

About 132,000 tons of tea leaves were purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year. About 60,700 tons of purchased tea leaves are of the 1st grade (46 percent), and 71,000 tons are of the 2nd grade (54 percent). As reported, about 30,000 tons of tea was produced in Iran in the current Iranian year.

The price of first-grade tea leaves is 46,000 rials (about $1.09), and the cost of second-grade tea leaves is 33,000 rials (about 78 cents) this year.

In Iran, some products such as rice, sugar beet, wheat, and tea are purchased from farmers by the Government Trade Corporation of Iran under a guarantee and paid for in installments.
