Georgian business sector shows downward trend in production

The volume of business sector turnover increased by 0.6 percent In the third quarter of 2020 compared to the same quarter of the previous year in Georgia and amounted to 29.2 billion lari ($8.8 million), Trend reports referring to National Statistics Office (Geostat).

The production value of the business sector is characterized by a decreasing tendency. In the third quarter of 2020, its volume equaled 11.6 billion lari ($3.5 billion), which is year-on-year 8.8 percent less.

In the reporting period, 57.1 percent of total turnover comes on large and 17.7 percent – on medium businesses while 25.2 percent is distributed to small businesses.

A small difference is in the case of total production value: 40.3 percent comes on large, 27.6 percent – on medium and 32.1 percent on small businesses.

In the third quarter of 2020, total purchases of goods and services carried out by enterprises equaled 16.4 billion lari ($4.9 billion) (year-on-year 10.4 percent less), while the purchase of goods and services for resale amounted to 9.9 billion lari ($2.9 billion) (year-on-year 4.7 percent less).

In the reporting period, the average number of employees equaled to 645,600, which is year-on-year 7.2 percent less. Out of the total number of employees, 40.8 percent are female and 59.2 percent are male.

Some 40.5 percent of the total number of employees comes on large, 22.7 percent – on medium and 36.8 percent - on small businesses.

The total number of employed persons amounted to 610,400 (year-on-year 6.4 percent less). The total personnel costs of enterprises equaled 2.43 billion lari ($734.3 million) (year-on-year 7.4 percent less).

In the reporting period, average monthly remuneration of employed persons equaled to 1,305.9 lari ($394.67) (year-on-year decrease by 10.3 lari ($3.11)) while remuneration of employed women made up 998.3 lari ($301.70) (year-on-year increase by 18.5 lari ($5.59)). Average monthly remuneration of employed persons by size of enterprises is as follows:

⦁ LARGE BUSINESS – 1,297.2 lari ($392.04);
⦁ MEDIUM BUSINESS – 1,487.6 lari ($449.58);
⦁ SMALL BUSINESS – 1,186 lari ($358.43).
