Iran-Iraq Joint Trade Commission to be established soon

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec. 4

Trend:

Member of Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce Seyed Hamid Hosseini has announced that a joint trade commission of the two countries will be established, Trend reports via ILNA.

“The two countries' trade commission has the capacity to facilitate decision-making on resolving issues and problems between the two sides,” Hosseini said.

Referring to the latest situation in Iran-Iraq trade, Hosseini said that in the first eight months of the current Iranian year (started on March 20), Iran exported $ 5.3 billion worth of goods to Iraq, so that Iraq is now the first trading partner of Iran.

"All borders with Iraq are open and the only problem is the heavy traffic of traders between the two countries,” he said. “Our imports from Iraq are not more than $50 million a year.”

He went on to say that Iraq does not allow foreign traders to enter its territory due to the spread of the coronavirus. Iran allows foreign traders on its territory, but with restrictions.

“Efforts are being made to find a way for traders to travel between two countries,” he said adding that the Iraq government has made promises in this regard and it is being pursued.
