BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec.5

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Total exports from Japan to Georgia were worth 10.34 billion JPY (99.4 million) from January through September 2020, the Embassy of Japan in Georgia told Trend.

"Total imports from Georgia were 1.61 billion JPY ($15.4 million)," the embassy said.

According to the embassy, there is still much more room to expand the existing partnership between Georgia and Japan.

"Considering Japanese experience with aquacultures and sustainable agriculture, Georgian stakeholders are interested to explore the possibility of cooperation in those areas," the source noted.

"Japan is providing various types of support to Georgia for its prosperity, to increase its East-West connectivity and access to European markets," the embassy said.

For example, Japan has funded the arrangement of the agricultural laboratories in Zugdidi city (Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Region of Georgia) and Akhaltsikhe city (Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia), which will enable local small and medium producers to obtain food safety certificates and as a result – access European markets in the future (based on EU-Georgia Association Agreement and subsequent Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement), the embassy noted.

"At the same time, Japan is providing support to Georgia to increase its human security for people. One of the last examples includes Japan’s donation of 300 million Japanese Yen for Georgia to improve its medical infrastructure and response to COVID-19 pandemic," the embassy said.
