Iran's Maku Free Zone aims to improve exports to Eurasia

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.10

Trend:

Iran's Maku Free Zone aims to improve exports to Eurasian countries, said the deputy head of Maku Free Zone Organization for investment and economic affairs Ebrahim Jalili.

"Maku Free Zone has a suitable location geographically, Iran's most important borders - Bazargan and Poldasht are situated in the zone. Bazargan is considered the gate to Europe and rival to Suez Canal on land and has many capacities to become a hub for commodity distribution in the region, " Ebrahim Jalili told Trend in an interview.

"In this regard the organization has several plans to build highways and widen roads in Maku Free Zone, as well as facilitate trucks transportation. Logistic center #1 in Bazargan established high standard warehouses and hangers that are used by businessmen. Maku airport has been operating, and it has permit regarding foreign flights," Jalili said.

"It's likely that development and completion of current infrastructures and construction of railway, launching aviation working group, development of customs and export terminals and construction of Tabriz- Bazargan freeway would be part of this hub," he said.

"More than 20 industrial and mineral production units have been launched in the Maku Free Zone. The zone could have more share in Eurasia market by identifying target markets and commodities that could be exported," he said.

"In this regard, creating connection with member countries of Eurasian Economic Union is underway in the form of joint commissions and offering suggestions to competent authorities to create necessary infrastructure between the Maku Free Zone and member states of EEU," Jalili said.
