Plant to be put into operation in Iran's South Khorasan Province

The first phase of the Ghaenat steel plant in the South Khorasan (northeastern Iran) is planned to be put into operation by the end of 11th month of the current Iranian year (February 18, 2021), Chairman of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization (IMTO) of South Khorasan Province Abbas Jorjani said, Trend reports citing the organization.

Jorjani emphasized that there is a 92-percent progress in the construction of the first phase of this plant. The phase will produce 800,000 tons of sponge iron annually.

He also added that there is a 65-percent progress in the construction of the second phase of the plant. This phase is estimated to produce 800,000 tons of steel products annually. This phase is expected to be put into operation over the next Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 to March 21, 2022).

The chairman noted that a total of 8 trillion rials (about $190 million) will be spent on the construction of the plant.

According to Jorjani, a total of 1,500 people will be employed with the full launch of the plant.
