Spain increases export of agricultural products to Turkmenistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 17

Some 241.82 tons of agricultural products were exported from Spain to Turkmenistan from January through September 2020, compared to 149.17 tons for the same period last year, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture told Trend.

According to statistics provided by the Ministry of Agriculture of Spain, during the specified period, 170.32 tons of cocoa and its preparations were exported from Spain to Turkmenistan, compared to 92.44 tons for the same period last year.

In addition, Spain exported wood and charcoal to Turkmenistan in the amount of 7.50 tons in the reporting period, while the export indicator of similar products was 26.12 tons last year.

Some 35.76 tones of vegetables and fruits were exported to Turkmenistan from Spain, compared to 26.12 tons in January through September of 2019.

The report notes that products based on cereals, flour, starch, fecula or milk were exported to Turkmenistan in the amount of 7.65 tons, while meat and offal from Spain were exported to Turkmenistan in the amount of 20.99 tons.

As earlier, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain told Trend, The most interesting Turkmen economic sectors for Spain are energy (oil and gas), water resources, transport infrastructures, textile, food industry, and tourism.

Also, the ministry named the main Spanish companies cooperating with Turkmenistan: “IBERTEST- Laboratories for the testing of train materials; IDOM - Engineering applied to energy, water, and urban development; INDRA - Systems for the management of transport and cities; TALGO - Trains; REPSOL - Oil exploration; TÉCNICAS REUNIDAS - Engineering applied to petrochemical and fertilizer complexes; TYPSA - Engineering and architecture applied to water, transport, urban infrastructures, environment, and renewable energies.”

The ministry also revealed some details of trade turnover with Turkmenistan. In particular, the ministry noted that in the first 8 months of 2020 Spanish exports to Turkmenistan were worth 8.9 million euros.

“Spain mostly exports to Turkmenistan products made of stone, furniture and electric materials,” said the ministry, adding that Spanish main imports from Turkmenistan consisted of fertilizers and cotton.

Furthermore, the message said that COVID-19 has had a negligible effect on Spain’s cooperation with Turkmenistan.
