Swedish bilateral support to Georgia amounted to approximately 12.7 million euros in 2020, Press Office at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs told Trend.
"Our aim is that all the projects that Sweden supports in Georgia should be ambitious. That is always needed to achieve concrete change but maybe the efforts to promote reproductive health rights (SRHR) as well as gender equality could be noted especially as they are dependent on changing often strong societal values which can be very challenging," the ministry noted.
According to the source, Swedish development cooperation with Georgia is mainly implemented through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
"Sida’s project portfolio currently consists of more than 20 projects within three sectors – Economic development, Democracy, human rights and gender equality and Environment and climate change," the ministry added.
Diplomatic relations between Georgia and Sweden were established on September 19, 1992. Diplomatic mission of Georgia to Sweden was opened in 2006.
Cooperation between Georgia and Sweden is developing dynamically both in bilateral and multilateral formats. Sweden’s (co-author of Eastern Partnership Initiative) active support and involvement in Georgia’s European integration process is important. Sweden plays a huge role in promoting effective implementation of the EaP initiative.
The government of Sweden significantly supports Georgia through International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
