Ukraine expects 2021 year to be important for intensifying bilateral Ukrainian-Turkmen cooperation in many areas of economy, MFA of Ukraine told Trend.
“In this context, great importance is attached to the high-level bilateral events planned for 2021, including holding the Fifth Meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Turkmen Commission on Economic and Cultural-Humanitarian Cooperation, and the Ukrainian-Turkmen Business Forum, that will give new urge to development of trade and economic ties. The resumption of direct passenger flights between Ukraine and Turkmenistan is also on the bilateral agenda,” clarified the ministry.
As in previous years, promising areas of cooperation between Ukraine and Turkmenistan will remain: energy (including the possibility of Ukraine's participation in international energy projects initiated by Turkmenistan), fuel and energy sector, construction (involvement of Ukrainian companies in large-scale infrastructure projects in Turkmenistan), mechanical engineering (agricultural machinery, urban transport, aircraft and shipbuilding, etc.), heavy (metallurgical products) and food industry (alcoholic beverages, confectionery), agro-industrial complex, pharmaceuticals and tourism, said the ministry.
“Increasing the use of the transport corridors passing through Ukraine and Turkmenistan territories will contribute to the growth of international trade and transit goods. Ukraine is also interested in developing relations in education and science,” added the MFA.
The ministry also pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on relations between Ukraine and Turkmenistan.
In particular the introduction of quarantine measures in order to counter the spread of coronavirus in both of the countries has affected the cooperation in many areas.
