International trade plays key role for Iran`s free zones - advisor to president

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 9

Trend:

Advisor to Iran`s President and Secretary of the Supreme Council of Free Zones Morteza Bank said that free zones in Iran have been set up without infrastructure so that most of their revenues have been used for building infrastructure, Trend reports via ISNA.

“The benefits and advantages of free zones primarily belong to the people of the region,” Bank said during the meeting with officials of the Maku Free Zone.

Bank pointed to China, saying it has 2,500 free zones, and it still pursues the policy of developing free zones.

He pointed to the effective role of foreign relations in increasing the productivity of Iran's free zones.

Bank added that "international trade has a key role in the amount and type of investments" that the free zones need.

“We have had four difficult years with limitations, but we have been resisting,” said Bank.

He went on to note that the free zones have also been subject to restrictions during the COVID-19 outbreak.

"Transparency in trade and exchange is essential," he said.
