By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The United States Agency for International Development's (USAID’s) program helps make different sectors of the Georgian economy more attractive to foreign investors, said Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Turnava has met the USAID Economic Security Program steering team to discuss recent and ongoing projects under the program as well as projects planned for the future.

She also said that the program is helping Georgia develop a tourism recovery strategy in the post COVID-19 period.

Turnava mentioned startups and said that thanks to the program Georgian innovators have the opportunity to present their projects in the US Silicon Valley to potential investors.

"The program also assists the United Airports of Georgia, which merges Tbilisi and Kutaisi airports. Our goal is to turn Kutaisi airport into a tourist attraction and a hub in western Georgia, where tourists will learn about the sights of western part of our country," said Turnava.

The five-year program which was approved last year aims to improve the livelihoods of Georgians by generating investment and increased employment in priority sectors and value chains.

USAID’s Economic Security Program is designed to scale up economic impact through strategic partnerships and investments while building alliances within and between the private sector, government, and civil society.

The program aims to facilitate investment and job creation in a number of important ways, including a grant fund to strengthen the ecosystem within particular value chains and a partnership fund to spur investment.
