Iran boosts import, export and transit of goods via Chabahar port

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 14

The transit of goods through the Chabahar port in the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (southeastern Iran) has increased by 95 percent since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020) to Feb. 13, compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director-General of Ports and Maritime Department in Sistan and Baluchestan Province Behrouz Aghaei said, Trend reports referring to the department’s website.

According to Aghaei, the transited goods were mainly agricultural products, wheat, sugar, meat and meat products, food products, equipment.

The director general added that the exports through the Chabahar port increased by 381 percent during the reporting period, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

"So, the export of agriculture, livestock and meat products increased by 100 percent and the construction materials - by 748 percent," he said.

Aghaei stressed that 9 percent of the essential products imported to Iran were imported through the Chabahar port. The import of essential products through the port increased by 71 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

"The corn feed, rice, sugar, agricultural products, vegetable oil, food products were essential products imported to Iran," the director general noted.

About 316,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at the Chabahar port of the Sistan and Baluchestan Province (southeastern Iran) in the 9th month of the current Iranian year (November 21-December 20, 2020).

Thus, 56,900 tons of cargo were loaded and 259,000 tons were unloaded at the port over the reporting month.
