Iran reaches gas export growth

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Mar.2

Trend:

Iran's gas export had a 100-percent growth during the past 7 and half years, and has increased from 9 billion cubic meters in 2013 to total of 18 billion cubic meters until the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020), said the CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company Hassan Montazer Torbati, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"Gas export to Azerbaijan is ongoing, while Iran has ongoing gas export contracts with Turkey and Iraq," said Torbati.

"Iran's gas export in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020) was 75 million cubic meters, the country's gas export volume indicate the daily and annual gas export have increased during the current government," he said.

"There have been primary talks with Turkey to extend the gas export contract, although there is enough time to extend the contract," Torbati said.

"Turkey's market has changed since 2000 - when the first Iran-Turkey first gas export contract was signed, however future belongs to Turkey's private sector, and the supply would increase, so the private sector from both sides should remain active," he said.

"There is no legal ban on participation of Iran's private sector in gas export and the experience has shown that public sectors might be more vulnerable than private sector," he said.

"Turkey's export route is prioritized for Iran as opposed to exporting gas to Europe, there are other possible routes from Iraq and Syria and even through Azerbaijan, however the strongest choice is gas export to Europe through Turkey," he said.

"Iran also has gas export contract with Pakistan, but it isn't in active phase, since Pakistan has not completed the pipeline construction on its side. We hope the contract would be re-initiated and we're optimistic about the gas export," Torbati said.
