Georgia-Ireland Council to be important chain for strengthening bilateral economic relations

Georgia-Ireland Business Council has been established and its constituent assembly was held on February 24, Trend reports via the Georgian Economy Ministry.

Deputy Economy Minister Aleksandre Khvtisiashvili delivered a welcome speech at the meeting. Representatives and members of the Business Council supervisory board have attended the assembly. Representatives of Ireland’s leading companies and academic circles have joined the Council.

Senator Diarmud Willson, head of the Georgia-Ireland inter-parliamentary friendship group, congratulated the Council on the foundation and promised overall support.

Giorgi Pertaia, president of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the recently established Business Council. Georgian Ambassador in Ireland Giorgi Zurabashvili and Irish Ambassador in Georgia Martina Fin have also addressed the invited guests.

The Parties discussed the bilateral business and economic cooperation prospects and projects.

“The Georgia-Ireland Business Council will be an important chain for strengthening bilateral business-economic and cultural relations. Before the Business Council Foundation, the Georgian Embassy in Ireland has provided active work with business and academic circles of Ireland. The Business Council will be led by well-known Irish lawyers and business arbiter James Bridgeman.

Amid the pandemic effects, it is vitally important to intensify bilateral cooperation and develop long-term business plans to tackle the hardest challenges. After the pandemic elimination, the Georgia-Ireland Business Council chairman James Bridgeman plans to pay reference visit to Georgia to deepen bilateral contacts and set specific project”, the Economic Ministry press release reads.

In 2019, Ireland ranked among the top 3 major investors with 10.5 percent in FDI inflows. In the same year, the inflow of Irish tourists to Georgia rose by 71 percent.
