Azerbaijan's Jan. 2021 imports from EU show increase

The value of imports of products from the EU to Azerbaijan increased by 15.6 percent in January 2021 compared to the same month of 2020, totaling over $180.3 million Trend reports referring to the statistical bulletin of the State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan.

According to the SCC, in January of last year, Azerbaijan’s imports from the EU amounted to 155.9 million.

Thus, the share of the EU in Azerbaijan's total imports amounted to 22.9 percent of the total volume against 21.63 percent in January 2020, the SCC report noted.

In January 2021, exports from Azerbaijan to the EU amounted to $991.7 million, while a year earlier this figure was at the level of $1.54 billion, reads the report.

Thus, the EU’s share in the total export of Azerbaijan decreased from 72.31 to 61.07 percent.

The volume of foreign trade operations between Azerbaijan and the EU amounted to $1.17 billion, showing an annual decrease of 30 percent.

Accordingly, the balance of foreign trade turnover of Azerbaijan with the EU for the reporting month remained positive, equaling $811 million.

Azerbaijan's total foreign trade turnover in January 2021 amounted to over $2.4 billion. Of these, more than $1.62 billion (67.34 percent) accounted for exports, the remaining $787.5 million or 32.66 percent - for imports.

Azerbaijan is an important economic partner of the EU. The EU countries are the largest importers of Azerbaijani products, in particular, about 50 percent of Azerbaijan's exports fall on the EU.
