Iran unveils details of plan for production of greenhouse products

Iran has fulfilled 91 percent of its plan for the production of greenhouse products since the beginning of the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020), Director General of Greenhouses, Ornamental Plants and Edible Mushrooms Affairs Office under the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad Gholamreza Taghavi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Taghavi said that Iran planned to grow 3.84 million tons of fruits, vegetables, plants, and other products in greenhouses in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2020, through March 20, 2021).

He added that so far, 2.6 million tons of goods have been harvested from greenhouses in Iran, and this volume is expected to reach 3.16 million tons by the end of the current Iranian year.

The director-general stressed that it is planned to grow new horticultural products such as pineapples, bananas, carrots, and ginger in greenhouses in the coming years.

As reported, Iran plans to increase the area of greenhouses to 52,800 hectares and increase production to 21 million tons until March 20, 2026.

According to the statistics of the Statistical Center of Iran, there are more than 9,800 hectares of greenhouse areas in Iran at present. There are currently 22,400 greenhouses in Iran. About 20,600 of them are active and 1,840 are inactive.
