Turkmenistan, Russia’s Volga-Kama region intend to increase trade turnover

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 16

By Jeila Aliyeva - Trend:

Turkmenistan and the Volga-Kama macroregion of Russia noted the need to take effective steps to increase mutual trade turnover, including the use of the potential of small and medium-sized businesses, Trend reports with reference to 'Turkmenistan: Golden Age' electronic newspaper.

The issue was discussed during a videoconference of the Consulate General of Turkmenistan in Kazan (Russia) with the heads of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, as well as the Chuvash Republic and the Perm Region of Russia.

The parties emphasized the importance of facilitating the procedure for obtaining entry visas, as well as the smooth transportation of goods and financial settlements.

They also expressed confidence that the upcoming VI summit of the heads of the Caspian states in Turkmenistan in 2021 will give an impetus to the expansion of cooperation between the regions of Russia located in the Volga-Kama basin and Turkmenistan.

As earlier the Russian Foreign Ministry told Trend, Turkmenistan and Russia are preparing to sign an intergovernmental agreement on the promotion of interregional cooperation, an intergovernmental program of economic cooperation for 2021-2023, an agreement on the exchange of statistical data on mutual trade, and the exchange of documents and information on the customs value of goods transported between Russia and Turkmenistan.

"We hope that Russian-Turkmen cooperation in the above-mentioned areas will continue this year. The next meetings of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on economic cooperation and its high-level group on trade and investment support, scheduled for this year in Moscow, will give the necessary impetus to the implementation of joint projects. The Second Caspian Economic Forum, which is scheduled to be held in Moscow in August, also opens up additional opportunities for cooperation with Turkmenistan."
