Private sector of Turkmenistan's economy employs over half of population

The private sector of Turkmenistan's economy employs 50.3 percent of the employed population of the country, Trend reports with reference to Business Turkmenistan information portal.

Meanwhile, 22 percent of the population of Turkmenistan works in enterprises with a mixed state-private form of ownership.

Some 25.3 percent of the employed population works at state-owned enterprises.

Also, 54.3 percent of women work in the field of individual entrepreneurship, which is 7.3 percent more than men in the private sector.

Currently, the share of the non-state sector in GDP is 70 percent, and in 2021 it is planned to increase this figure to 70.6 percent.

In order to develop the private sector, Turkmenistan has designated a list of objects for privatization, including individual state-owned enterprises and a large number of infrastructure facilities.

In addition, the development of the stock market, the creation of market funds and the organization of specific transactions were identified as the main financial instruments for the development of the private sector in the country.

It was also decided to continue supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, said the report.

Thus, 66 percent of the country's production structure was accounted for by private businesses. Since the beginning of 2020 till mid-July representatives of the private sector have increased the manufacture of industrial products by 18.9 percent, and agricultural and food products by 28.7 percent.
